History

In 1987, Gonzalo Antón, together with a group of friends and business people from nearby Vitoria, began a groundbreaking project in deepest Rioja Alavesa.

The village of Villabuena de Alava, where his family already grew grapes, was chosen as the location for the innovative bodega which would focus on making fine wine. Gonzalo’s knowledge of hotels and restaurants soon made Izadi one of the most highly-regarded wines in gastronomic circles. At the same time, the introduction of new winemaking techniques and continuous improvements in quality set a house style over time.

When Lalo Antón joined the company in 2000 it expanded and began to increase its exports. Projects, such as Finca Villacreces (D.O. Ribera del Duero), Bodegas Vetus (D.O. Toro) and Orben (D.O.Ca. Rioja), were undertaken under the name Artevino.

Our commitment to quality, our bond with gastronomy and our love of the land are the cornerstones of Bodegas Izadi.

SENSITIVITY

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Sensitivity is one of the core values that leads us to champion attention to detail in all areas of our business. It’s a combination of care and indulgence. We pamper our wines from the vineyard to the moment a bottle of Izadi is opened. We leave nothing to chance. We are thorough, we think about every single detail to make sure it is coherent, relevant and pleasing to our consumers. We want them to see that we take a serious and professional approach to our work in winemaking, logistics, wine tourism, design…

HOSPITALITY

WE ARE RESTAURATEURS AT HEART

Hospitality is our starting point and the driving force behind our growth. We like to please. Our origins are in the gastronomic scene, thanks to Gonzalo Antón, restaurateur and creator of Jornadas de Cocina de Autor, a series of culinary workshops that witnessed the rise of superstars such as Adrià, Joan Roca and Berasategui, among others, taking our cuisine to new heights. Hospitality is very close to our heart. We want to welcome everyone into our home, we want you to walk into the heart of one of the first wineries to open its doors to the public. When you visit Izadi, we want you to feel our warmth, humility and commitment to service, and to enjoy the experience to the full.

RESPECT

IZADI IS NATURE

Our heritage and our commitment to sustainability are inextricably linked. We take care of our natural surroundings and we ask our consumers to do the same. That is why we have changed our internal processes to work respectfully (with integrated and sustainable farming practices) and to be socially and environmentally responsible. This respect extends to our audiences (both internal and external), to whom we listen carefully in order to build long-term relationships based on mutual trust and the promise of quality/honesty.

CURIOSITY

CURIOSITY DRIVES US TO NEW HORIZONS

It encourages us to grow, to constantly improve and to do things differently. It leads us to discover new possibilities, colours, aromas and sensations that keep our passion for the land alive. We reinterpret knowledge, ways of doing things, from fresh points of view. We refuse to be complacent, evolution is always in our minds, exploring alternatives, new paths, which is why we have been pioneers with our new rosés, in the reinterpretation of local white grape varieties or in singular vineyards.
